D.C. Pearls III Foundation is the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In the year of 2000, Rho Mu Omega voted to establish the Foundation as its fundraising partner to aggressively pursue grants, corporate sponsorships, and other donations. Two years later, D.C. Pearls III was incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
The D.C. Pearls III Foundation and Rho Mu Omega jointly sponsor fundraising events to fund our community service programs. Our major fundraising events include the Paint and Pearls Party, the Jazz Brunch Auction and the Debutante Cotillion. Our fundraising efforts are vital to our shared mission of awarding scholarships to area high school students and providing dedicated and committed service to the D.C. community.
We have established an educational scholarship fund for Washington, D.C. high school graduates to continue their education at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). A minimum of four (4) scholarships are awarded annually to students who have been accepted and plan to attend an HBCU. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence or potential, leadership skills, and community service.
Through June 2016, chapter members and their guests have volunteered approximately 1,809 hours towards our community service programs. A few of the many examples from our diverse community service programs include:
